The prophecy of the Orange Messiah
Nikki Haley suspended her campaign, essentially giving the nomination to Trump. What's next?
When Donald Trump officially announced his bid for president in 2024, I knew we were in for it. When I say “we” I mean all of America and some of the world.
And by “it,” what I really mean is what’s been going on for nearly the last decade. Trump has not and will not in the near future be politically irrelevant.
For me, I never assumed Trump wouldn’t run in 2024. Just days after he lost the 2020 election, my neighbor down the street put up a “Trump 2024” yard sign on the corner for everyone to see as they turn into our dead-end road. I often found myself in conversations with people inquiring about how I, a journalist, felt about what would happen next.
I never wavered in expecting Trump to run in 2024. I fully expect him to get the GOP nomination with ease and resounding praise from Republicans nationwide.
The poll data shows Trump is quite literally doing better than ever—even better than in 2016 when the polling places were packed to vote for the Orange Messiah. I heard people I trust sing his praises and I felt confused.
I’m not confused anymore.
Trump will likely be the GOP nominee and he will face Biden in November. I’m not prepared to tell you what will happen there. What I can tell you is that I’ve not had a single presidential election where I was old enough to cast a ballot where Trump was not the GOP nominee.
I started my journey as a voting, tax-paying American citizen with Trump on the ballot and I don’t foresee a near future without his name on the GOP party line.
That’s just my honest thoughts. If you want more of my honest thoughts about the two-party system, read my op-ed I published in 2020 about my predicament at the polls.
I’m a bit of a party pooper, if you know what I mean.
In the news (and in the know)
Here’s what I’ve been reading this week that has made me ask deeper questions about the 2024 election. It seems every 4 years the election issues become bigger and more dire. There’s a lot to pick apart.
Take a breath with me.
In — and hold for 5

and out — hold for 5
